According to ESPN, Barcelona are interested in raiding La Liga 2 club Las Palmas for the signing of 18-year-old starlet Alberto Moleiro and have held negotiations with the lower league outfit over a possible move. Moleiro moved to the Las Palmas youth setup in 2018 from the Sobradilla youth academy. Having joined the club, the young attacking midfielder, who is adept at playing as a No. 10 or out on the flanks, has already established himself as a first-team regular despite being just 18 years of age.
There is no doubt that Barcelona are set to offload a multitude of star players at the end of the season as Xavi looks to properly reshape the entire squad by shipping unwanted players out of Camp Nou. Philippe Coutinho, for one, has been primed to leave the club, amid interest from Aston Villa and most recently, Arsenal.
And according to Diario Sport, Clement Lenglet is another player expected to leave Barça in the summer, after failing to make a name for himself under Xavi. Since the Spaniard’s appointment, Lenglet, formerly a first-team regular alongside Gerard Pique, has fallen behind the likes of Eric Garcia and Ronald Araujo in the pecking order. Barcelona have leapfrogged holders Atletico Madrid on the Spanish La Liga standings following their 4-2 home win over the capital club at the weekend. The Catalan giants overcame some challenges to secure an important win in the race for Champions League football.
Atletico Madrid won the La Liga title last season ahead of city rivals Real Madrid, but they have not been able to muster any sort of challenge to defend their league title. They are even in danger of not qualifying for Champions League football next season. Only a place in La Liga’s top four this season will guarantee Champions League football in the new season. Five-time European champions Barcelona have reportedly join the queue for highly rated Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara. A report from French media portal Foot Mercato disclosed that Barcelona are keen to snap up the 22-year-old French midfielder on a free transfer next summer. The Catalan giants have joined the likes of German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and new Premier League moneybags Newcastle United in the hunt for the player who’s in the final year of his contract at Marseille.
Kamara has already turned down four different proposals from Marseille in their quest for him to sign a new deal and it’s increasingly looking like the player will leave StadeVelodrome at the end of the season. He will most likely let his contract run out before leaving for a new team on a free transfer. Continue reading “BARCELONA JOIN OTHERS IN KAMARA RACE”
Barcelona are without a win in five UEFA Champions League (UCL) games for the first time in 24 years after they failed to record a victory in their latest Champions League outing. The Catalans were on the end of a 3-0 loss to Portuguese Super League outfit Benfica in a Group E clash.
Benfica took an early lead through Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez. His goal in the third minute gave the Portuguese club the lead at the end of the first 45 minutes. Rafa Silva was a part of the Portugal squad to the Euro 2020 tournament and it was the petite attacker who doubled the lead for the hosts on 69 minutes. Nunez then completed his brace from the spot with eleven (11) minutes remaining on the clock. Barcelona defender Eric Garcia still managed to receive his marching orders in the final three minutes. Some Barcelona fans will agree that they have been made to forget about the agony of losing their star player Lionel Messi this summer, especially judging by the scintillating performance the club’s players put in last weekend in their opening match of the new season. Barca started their new campaign with an exciting victory over Real Sociedad as they ran out 4-2 winners at the end of the match even though they had to survive a late Sociedad surge that saw them score two goals in less than ten minutes. Barca were already 3-0 up heading into the final 15 minutes of the tie but Real Sociedad scored two goals in quick succession to make the scoreline 3-2.
Barcelona players then spotted the danger and recovered right on time to add one more to their goals to make the scoreline 4-2 deep into stoppage time to confirm that they would be walking away with all three points. Memphis Depay was one of the star performers of the match as he continued to show Barca fans that he is here to stay and play a huge part in helping the club to achieve significant success this season. This is not the sort of news Barcelona fans will want to see or hear. According to multiple reports from various sources, the Catalan giants have reportedly ended their interest in signing German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland this summer because of financial reasons. The Spanish La Liga giants were reported to be the frontrunners in on the list of the clubs that want to sign the Dortmund striker this summer but according to fresh reports, that may have changed.
The Camp Nou club are currently in some financial crises and as a result, it appears they will not be able to afford Haaland’s signing in the summer. Last month, it was revealed that it would cost an amount in excess of £180 million to sign the Norwegian striker and it is a fee that Barca will not be able to invest in just one player. At the beginning of the season, after the first round of fixtures in the Spanish La Liga, this question would have appeared more needless to ask than now. But now, of course, the question would surely be treated with more seriousness and concentration. Following the appointment of former Netherlands national team manager Ronald Koeman as the club’s new boss, the players were tasked with the responsibility of learning a new playing pattern.
Koeman also came to a Barcelona side and inherited a less-performing team from former manager Quique Setien, but he has now turned things around after a few months at the helm. Barcelona’s current style of play and approach to the game that Koeman has introduced has been largely helpful for them since its implementation and they have also become a much better side than they were. The Spanish La Liga giants are no doubt currently in one of the worst phases of their history, but will they be able to bounce back anytime soon? From financial crises to the uncertainty surrounding the future of some star players at the club, including that of the club’s captain Lionel Messi, there are a handful of reasons to be concerned and worried as a Barcelona fan right now. There are a lot of unanswered questions lurking around these problems, with a majority of them still waiting to be answered.
One of the major areas of the club that needed to be addressed has finally been wrapped up with the appointment of Juan Laporta as the new president. Following the presidential elections, Laporta came out on top among his other rivals who equally gave a good pitch of how they were going to turn things around at the club.
