At the beginning of the season, after the first round of fixtures in the Spanish La Liga, this question would have appeared more needless to ask than now. But now, of course, the question would surely be treated with more seriousness and concentration. Following the appointment of former Netherlands national team manager Ronald Koeman as the club’s new boss, the players were tasked with the responsibility of learning a new playing pattern.

Koeman also came to a Barcelona side and inherited a less-performing team from former manager Quique Setien, but he has now turned things around after a few months at the helm. Barcelona’s current style of play and approach to the game that Koeman has introduced has been largely helpful for them since its implementation and they have also become a much better side than they were.

The release clause of 111 million Euros is deemed to much for Barcelona to pay this summer. Inter will not bulge in their valuation of the forward, knowing the La Liga side want another option upfront. Barcelona have reportedly agreed not to move forward with the deal if the price remains 111 million Euros.

The new deal, with negotiations to be led by his father Jorge, would see Messi get an extension that would mean ending his illustrious career at the club. Since 2010, Messi has scored at least 50 goals every year for club and country – making him one of the most consistent players in football history.
